Holiday Shopping with a Cause!

If you were already planning to do your Christmas shopping on Amazon (hello Cyber Monday) you can easily support our adoption! If you access Amazon using the link in the top right corner of this page, a portion of your sale will automatically go toward our adoption fund. Everything looks completely the same to you and it's anonymous, but it's an easy way to help us grow our Adoption savings. Make sure you start with an empty cart. We'll be doing this until we've reached our goal and feel free to spread the word!  Thanks in advance for your support!

Starting Place

Hello! As you probably already know, we are starting our family through adoption.  We are so excited!  We hope that our family and friends will join in our happiness, but if there are any questions please feel free to contact one of us privately.

Here we plan to post important news and updates regarding our adoption.  Here's where we are so far:

10/15 - After weeks of research and interviews, we chose the agency we will use for our adoption.  So far we've been very impressed!  They are local and have been very quick and positive in our process so far.
In the following few weeks we completed:
  • our initial application
  • fire inspection
  • vaccinations for the cats
  • water test
  • employer references
  • personal references (a big thank you to all of them!  I know those questions were not easy)
  • financial statement
  • physical exams
  • and made lots of copies of various legal documents
11/8 - Happy 4th anniversary to us!  Our agency put on a seminar - "Firsthand Views of Adoption."  Several families with varying situations spoke about their adoption experiences.  Aside from starting an hour late, it was really good!  One of the families let their adopted son speak (he's 11 years old), and he had me in tears!

11/9 & 11/10 - We completed our 12 hours of state required training.  Many people warned us to be prepared for the worst.  Unless they were predicting Nate's flat tire on the side of Rt-8 at 5:30 PM - there wasn't much to be prepared for.  I mean, I enjoyed our training and found a lot of it informative.

11/13 - We found out that we've been assigned a social worker and received our initial home study questions.  This was a 6 page questionnaire - mine was 17 pages after all questions were answered.  It took us 3 days to answer our questionnaire, and it was a little overwhelming - a lot to think about!

11/16 We each submitted our questionnaires.

11/19 Our social worker contacted us to schedule our home visits - they will be 11/26 and 12/1.  After that point we will schedule more visits if needed.  If we don't have more visits it could take 4 - 6 weeks to finish up the home study paperwork.  If all goes well, we will receive our certificate and the wait begins!
Other than that we've just been working our "look book" - a book the agency will give to each potential birth mother to look at to decide if she'd like to meet with us - this has been more difficult than I originally thought.  We're getting close though!
